Description:
The Lady Fern, Female Fern or Common Lady-Fern is a species of Fern typical to temperate regions from Asia, Europe and North America, it is abundant to cool woodland environments, filling the forest floor or even used for decorative purposes. The Lady Fern is known for its bipinnate fronds, growing multiple segments per blade (Unlike Pinnate Fronds of which develop a primary pinna only, such as the Western Swordfern).
In Jurassic Park, the Fern would make its first appearance at Isla Sorna, predominantly seen in the Eastern side of the Island, known to be formed of temperate conifer forests with pine trees, sequoias and other species of ferns & shrubs. Years ahead, the species would find its way into the Biosyn Valley, located in the Dolomites Mountains. The fern would become one of the main plants present in the Valley, as the primary source of food for herbivorous Dinosaurs captured by the DPW and Biosyn.

Habitat & Geographical Ranging:
Lady Fern is extremely abundant in cool environments west of North America, including places such as the states of California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho in the US. In Canada it can be found south of British Columbia. Overseas, the Fern is extremely common in almost the entirety of Europe in countries such as Portugal, Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK.
Particularly in Italy the fern can be found at the Dolomites Mountains, within the Biosyn Valley. It can also be seen in great numbers covering the cool forests of Isla Sorna down in Central America, more specifically at the eastern north, south and center sections of the Island.
