Operation Genesis

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis is a digital Video-Game developed by Blue Tongue Entertainment that was released around 2003 under the supervision of Universal Interactive. The game was released for PC, PS2, XBOX and would eventually release for GameCube.

The main objective behind Operation Genesis is letting players have the feeling and face the challenge of building their very own Jurassic Park as seen in the movies, using various buildings and a diverse roster of Dinosaur Species, the possibilities were nearly endless.

This section of the site, culminates the major parts of the game, the equivalent of the Jurassic Park Gates for you reader. We hope that you learn even a tiny little more regarding this incredible game while going on this journey, so, what are we waiting for? Let's start off, welcome to Operation Genesis!

Welcome to Operation Genesis

Just like everyone else, your journey starts by the Jurassic Park Gates, the main menu. Here, you can choose from a variety of options to go in the game, there are 8 different icons to choose from, with the following:

  • Operation Genesis: Starts off a new Campaign in the game, where John Hammond calls you to lead the management of the new Jurassic Park Operations in 2002, your objective is to achieve 5 Stars under the circumstances and challenges that may appear.

  • Exercises: For those are that starting into the game, Exercises are a great way to learn from the basics to the advanced mechanics of Operation Genesis, our page of Exercises which you can read here, includes in-detail information regarding each of these Exercises.

  • Missions: Challenging Missions for the adventurers of Jurassic Park, these work as time-limited scenarios that you complete various tasks, going from Photo Shootings, Rescue Operations and so on, you can read here in-detail our Missions page to learn more on how each of these challenges work.

  • Site B: "Thank God for Site B", Site B is a sandbox type of scenario where you can watch your dinosaurs live peacefully on an island, no fences, no buildings, no human interference, only your dinosaurs as Mother Nature would've preferred. Site B is better explained down this page if you're interested on it.

  • Load Saves: Just like any other game, Operation Genesis has a Loading menu for your Saves of Campaigns and Site B's.

  • Dinopedia: A Collection of Information regarding most of the Park, its Dinosaurs, and how to handle facilities, guests and etc. Most of the Dinopedia information was spread across this site, each topic going to their respective pages.

  • Settings and Exit: The Settings Menu works as various Audio and Graphic changes that can be applied by the Player, the Exit button leaves the game.

Starting your new Island

Starting off your new Campaign opens up the Island Generation tab, where Mr. Hammond introduces himself, your objective, and let you edit your Island to better suit your future job.

The Generator lets you use circle or square islands, while enabling Size changes, how Forested it will be, how many Rivers and how many Mountains.

After you're satisfied with it, your Campaign starts...

Park Manager Menus

Park Manager Menus

After you finished building up your Island and you arrive on it, it's time to start creating your very own Jurassic Park, for that, there's 3 Important Menus that open up various categories and things for you to manage, those being:

  • Build: With a plenty of sub-categories, the Build menu shows you everything that you can create for your Jurassic Park, going from Enclosures to Scenery, with the following sections:

  • Paths - Paths and Decorative Items such as the Fountain and Benches;

  • Cleaner Station - A Maintenance Depot where you can hire Cleaners for your park;

  • Attractions - Various facilities built for Visitors to interact with the Dinosaurs;

  • Environment - Tools that help you to build up the Landscape of your Park;

  • Amenities - Various facilities made to better accommodate the Visitors on your Park;

  • Enclosures - Buildings to work on your Dinosaur Paddocks such as Fences and Feeders;

  • Security - A collection of Staff Facilities and Buildings to improve the Park Security;

  • Reports: With these, you can get detailed summaries of various sectors of your Park as you expand it, with the following:

  • Performance - The InGen Board gives you a feedback on your performance;

  • Visitor - A Summary focused on the Feedback of Visitors, their opinions and thoughts of the Park's Attraction;

  • Security - A short Summary showing how safe the Park is according to Visitors aswell as a list of causalities;

  • Dinosaur - Working as a sort of "Ingen's List", the Dinosaur Summary shows you all species that you have Genome for, and how many individuals you cloned of each species;

  • Finance - A Summary focused on the finances of the Park, the profits and etc;

  • Structure - A Summary for the various Buildings that you may have in your Park, their profit, cost, if they need repair, and other things;

  • Entertainment - A Summary focused on the Attractions of your park, how much profit they receive and how well they perform with the Visitors;

  • Dinosaurs: Here you get to see better how to develop your Animals, with tabs such as the Fossil Hunt and Genetics Lab, with the following:

  • Fossil Hunt - A tab opened for Dig Sites where you start collecting Dinosaur Fossils in order to clone them;

  • Fossil Market - For the players that run out of stock on Dig Sites, the Fossil Market is the place to buy fresh Fossils and finish their genomes;

  • Genetics Lab - Where the real magic happens, this is where you convert the Fossils you get into Dinosaur DNA;

  • DinopediaSame as seen in the Main Menu;

  • Dinosaur Summary - Same as seen in the Reports Section;

  • Actions: With this menu, you can do various Actions on your Park, major ones to be specific, with the following:

  • Place Park Entrance - As the name suggests, you use this to place down a Park Entrance for Visitors;

  • Research - Opens up the Research tab where you discover and learn new content for your Park;

  • Declare Emergency - Enables Emergency Mode where Visitors run to a safe place, usually only activated during Dinosaur Breakouts or Twisters;

  • Go To Chopper - If you've built a Ranger Station, this option puts you in control of the nearest Ranger Chopper;

  • Go To Land Cruiser - If you've built a Safari Adventure, this option puts you in control of the nearest Land Cruiser;

Weather

Weather

During your state on your Island, you will face off various Weather conditions that may or may not complicate things to your side, some of which include Twisters and Tropical Storms, it's important to learn about the Weather and be prepared for it whenever it comes.

Sunny

The Default Weather condition, Sunny, or Clear Sky or just Normal Sky is when the sun is shining across the valleys and mountains of your Park, the most common and also the only that doesn't cause any problems.

Heatwave

Heatwave.png

The Heatwave, or Dry Season, or just Sunset, even Evening, is a specific Weather Condition where the island gets hotter than usual, making Dinosaurs and Visitors thirstier than usual. The Heatwave also slowly deforestates your island as the Trees start to die due the intense temperature.

Rain

The Rain, Calm Rain, Light Rain or whatever else you want to call, is a relaxing Wet Season where all the lights of your buildings light up, they also slowly increase the jungles of islands, creating more and more palms and ferns.

Thunderstorm

The Thunderstorms, or Tropical Storms, are uncommon Weather Conditions that are much stronger than the normal Rain, they may cause damage to buildings with Lightings and can panic Dinosaurs. If the situation isn't handled well during Thunderstorms, severe consequences can come for you.

The Twisters need no introduction at all, we all know them, we all hate them..

The Twisters or Tornadoes are rare events that happen in your island, they wipe out everything  that is across their way, including buildings, visitors, and dinosaurs..

Build

The Build Menu opens up a variety of options to design the Jurassic Park of your dreams, from the Landscape of the Island, to the Decorations of your Park, and of course, the Staff Facilities needed to make sure your Jurassic Park functions properly, all these Buildable Items are listed down below under their respective categories:

Paths

The Paths Sub-Menu comes with 4 Items to be chosen:

  • Path 

  • Trash Can 

  • Bench 

  • Fountain

Each one of these are vital for a healthy walkway for your Visitors. On your Right, click on the images to read in detail about each of these Items, their price, how many units can be placed and other things.

Cleaner Station

The Cleaner Station, or Maintenance Depot, is a Staff Facility built to hire Cleaners for your Park, with them, the Park's Paths can stay clean and charming for the Visitors, you can read more about the Cleaner Station down below:

Attractions

Attractions are the key profit point of your Park, with them, you make Visitors interact and see your Dinosaurs in various ways like no other theme park, you can read more about the Attractions down below:

Environment

The Environment Sub-Menu comes with 5 Items to be chosen:

  • Paleo Trees 

  • Modern Trees

  • Flatten

  • Lake

  • Mountain

Each one of these help you to sculpt the landscape of your island. On your Right, click on the images to read in detail about each of these Items.

Amenities

The Amenities Buildings are vital for a good Resort and Welfare of your Visitors, things such as the Park Entrance, Kiosks, and Gift Shops form the variety of things you can build, you can read more about the Amenities Buildings down below:

Enclosures

The Enclosures sub-menu is one of the most important ones for a secure park, after all, with no fences the Dinosaurs could go and eat people right? Fences, Feeders and other stuff enter into this category, you can read more about the Enclosures down below:

Security

The Security is vital for both Visitors and Dinosaurs for a healthy and good Park. Under this category lays down buildings such as the Security Cameras or the Ranger Station, you can read more about the Security Facilities down below:

Reports

Reports

The Reports Menu is where all of your Summaries are located, with them, you can see in detail various things regarding your park, performance and finances. To get a proper management and make sure you stay on the green line, these Summaries give all the necessary information for you. These Summaries are listed down below:

Performance

Presented by John Hammond or Peter Ludlow, the Performance Summary is a Meeting with the InGen Board to discuss your performance on the park. If there are any problems, situations to be fixed, or even if it's all going as expected, they will send you a meeting every quarter of the year.

Visitor Summary

Presented by Jane Powers, the Visitor Summary gives a quick overview of the Feedback from the Visitors, what they generally think of the Park, if they're satisfied with it, if they feel safe, and so on. The Visitors come in 4 different types:

  • Mainstream

  • Thrill Seekers

  • Fun Lowers

  • Dino Nerds

Security Summary

Presented by Robert Muldoon, the Security Summary gives an overview of how safe and secure the Visitors feel while in your Park, it's important to check this often to make sure your Security Protocols are attending the demands.

Dinosaur Summary

Presented by Dr. Ellie Sattler, the Dinosaur Summary works similar to Ingen's List, showing the Genome and Population of all the Species you have for the Park, aswell as their Life Span.

Finance Summary

Presented by Peter Ludlow, the Finance Summary gives you an overview of the Finances of your Park, your profit and loses, income and expenses from various factors.

Structure Summary

Presented by Jane Powers, the Structure Summary gives an overview of the Structures, Buildings and Facilities of your Park, listing all of them, their profit, and how many visitors are inside of the same.

Entertainment

Presented by Jane Powers, Entertainment Summary gives you an overview of all the Attractions you have put into your Park, showing their profit, bias and score with the Visitors.
